Sick Again!

Poor Ella is sick again! Aggg.. She has been throwing up since early Monday morning. This is her third time with the flu this season, so if she is not better by tomorrow we are headed to the doctor to see if it is more than the viral stuff that is going around. I was just on the phone with Angie (her doctor's nurse) and she said some stuff is still going around. I can't believe this. I gave her some waffle this morning and she seems to be doing ok and just now fell asleep so she is still weak and tired. Roc threw up once yesterday and then a bit just after I fed him before bed, but he seems ok today. Poor Ella she is just not herself and has basically laid on the couch and our bed since Monday morning. Hopefully she will be on the mend soon.

Also on a more happy note Roc has been standing on his own for short periods of time (less than 5 seconds). I wonder if he will be walking soon?

After reading Hannah's blog about looking up Emmett's stats I decided to do this too-since I forgot to ask where Roc was at the nine month appointment. He is in the 3-5 percentile for weight, which I will say worries me some. But the thing is these stats are based on what all other babies his age weigh, so how do you know what is a normal weight? Roc is a mover so I think this is why he has slimmed down some but he also is not a big eater. I wish I could put him on milk since he loves drinking out of his cup with a straw and if there was something is there besides water then he would actually be getting some nutrients. Ok he is awake now so off to keep him occupied so Ella can rest.

Stella!!!!!!

My very dear friend Stella came over for a little visit. She came Thursday night and left Friday night. It was so good to see her and Ella was excited because Stella was going to come to watch cartoons with her! We had a great time even though the visit was short. Stella and I met while going to the UW as we both lived in the UCU house together, oh the memories. We have now been friends for almost 14 years, the thing about that is I have now been out of college for 12 years, how scary is that? Am I really that old? It does not feel like I am. Stella and I went out for dinner on Friday night before we left, I was wearing my favorite Husky coat and the guy who seated us made a comment about liking my coat since it was a Husky one. Then he asked me if I was going to school there? Do I really look that young??

Here are a few pictures of Ella and Stella putting a puzzle together and trying to keep Roc out of the way.
Also Roc learned to drink from a straw last night, which thrills me as I prefer the cups with straws over the regular sippy cups.

Answer to the Game....

Ok part of me would love to announce that I am pregnant, but part of me is glad to say that this was my lie. I did in fact break my elbow cross country skiing. And to this day every once in a while I have pain in it still. Also I did wreck my previous babysitter's (Julie) car twice. Needless to say that Nordstrom Anniversary shopping trip did not turn out fun. I just was not in the mood to shop after that, but Julie was a little glad because she had been wanting a new car. Not sure this is the best way to go about it but at least she was not totally mad at me.

As for the pregnant part, I thought for a long time that I wanted three children by the time I turned 35, but while I love my children I am not totally into the baby stage. I love that stage that Ella is at and can't wait for Roc to get there. I am not sure if I can do this again but then I wonder will I always wish we would have had more? So many people out there have three kids and it seems like the perfect number but then I think one boy and one girl is great and they are both healthy and I should be happy with that. What do you think? I will put a poll about this I think, not that I would decided based on this but it would be nice to know what other people think so please vote and let me know what you think.

Nine Month Checkup

Roc had is nine month check up yesterday. He now weights 17 lbs 13 oz, is 28.5 inches long and his head circumference is 18 in. He did not gain much weight so now we have to go back for a weight check in a month. I had to do this with Ella too, not sure if I should be worried or not. I am supposed to try to give him lots of high fat foods to see if he will gain more weight. He eats solids foods but will only eat a few bites then seems to be done so it is hard to get him to eat much at a time...I used to chase Ella around to get her to eat as she did not want to sit in the highchair and eat either. Not sure if I want to start this habit again! Oh well it is only a season and I guess I just need to get through it!

2 Truths & a Lie

Ok per Abby's blog here is my contribution. Please read Abby's Blog for the rules.

In High School I broke my elbow not downhill skiing but Cross Country Skiing and we did not leave our weekend trip to Leavenworth, but waited till the next Monday to take me to the Dr.

I am excited to announce that we just recently found out that we are expecting our third child.

In high school I wrecked my previous babysitter's car not once but twice. Once was a minor dent, but the other time I totaled her car on a trip to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in Portland.

So comment with your guess as to which one is the lie and I will reveal the answer in a few days. Keep in mind that you might just be surprised by the right answer.

Daddy's Little Helper

Ella loves to be outaside (as she calls it), especially if Kevin is out there working. She will follow him around and help. Kevin has been filling in the swing set area with more pea gravel so last night Ella helped him with her shovel. What a Gal!

Walking with the Walker

This weekend Kevin had Roc try out his walker to see what he would do with it. I had not tried this before because I thought it would move too fast and he would fall but he actually did really well, other than some directional problems. Sometimes is is just easier to walk on the knees, a trick I think he learned from Emmett.

Roc is not the only one

Ok I am totally stealing Hannah's idea from this blog post, but I thought it was pretty creative so I set out to search for some other Roc's in this world. A few I knew of, others I found out for the first time. I am sure there are more out there but I figured this was enough to prove to Stella that Roc is actually a name. Now you know Stella-we did not make this name up!
Some are spelled Roc and some are spelled Rock. For those of you that don't know-Kevin originally chose this name for a boy when we were pregnant with Ella and we decided to stick with it for our second child. We of course first hear this name due to the famous Husky football player who's name is Roc. Kevin wanted to name him Roc Alexander Futrell, but that I would not go for that as I don't like the name Alexander. Ok so here they are... in no particular order.

Roc Alexander
Rock Hudson
Roc O'Conner
The Rock
"Roc"
Rock the rapper
Roc Hoover

Also Peter means Rock. Now I don't particularly care for that name but he was one of Jesus disciples and don't forget the lyrics in the hymn "The Solid Rock", so there is some spiritual emphasis behind his name.
If anyone out there knows anymore Roc's I loved to hear about it-famous or not.

Baby Cows

On Saturday Hannah asked if we would want to go with her and Emmett to see some baby cows that a lady from our church had. Since Ella loves to look at animals we thought it would be fun and decided to go. Since it was Roc’s naptime just Ella and I went. I went there imagining a little barn with a few calves and Ella getting to go up and pet them, but what we happened upon was the day for branding and castrating about 75 baby cows, they were also getting various shots and medicine. We made our way to the corral area and they had all the little babies in a waiting pen and the mothers on the other side of the corral mooing quite loudly for them. It was quite a sight. One by one the calves would be put in this pin devise and then turned on their sides for the brand to be put on. I was not sure what Ella thought of all this or if she really understood what was going on. She seemed to have fun but wanted me to hold her most of the time. On the way home she said "they put the baby cows in the bed and then give them the shot." (it did in a way kinda look like a crib). Then later that night she said "they stamped the cows with fire". So I guess she did understand a bit more that I thought she did. Here are a few pictures of the exciting event. She was willing to wear her red cowboy boots, but would not put on her jeans (I guess she is not a true cowgirl after all)

Babysitting Emmett

Today I got to babysit Emmett for about 20 minutes while Hannah went to Fred Meyer. She stopped by to get some coupons I printed for her and then when she started to put Emmett back in the car he did not want to leave. It must be because we have so many fun toys here. I tried to get some good shots of the boys and Ella playing but it was pretty sunny and they would not sit still. Since I don't know how to caption my photos individually I will just write about them and then you can view them. Roc excited to get over to Emmett. Emmett playing with a balloon, till I had Ella hide it since I know Hannah does not want him playing with balloons.

Water Fun

I have decided that Kids Love Water. Ella's new thing is to get in the shower. She will play in it for as long as I let her. Our bathroom has a shower head that you can hold as well as adjust the height. She holds it and has a great time spraying herself as well as the shower walls. Roc's new fascination is the toilet. (Thank goodness for Clorox bleach wipes.) He not only loves to stand up and reach into the water, but loves to lower and raise the seat cover and flush the toilet as many times as he can. He usually only gets this fun when I am in the shower and can't immediately remove him. Hannah said that in a book she is reading the author suggests when the weather is nice to go outside with a bucket of water and let your kids go at it. I am thinking a kiddy pool would be a great addition to our yard for the summer! As I am typing this Ella is "cleaning" the shower so I better go supervise.
